Do Angels Fear the Reaper? CHAPTER 11
The next day Kei was hugging Yuri tightly. Tears knew no end. She had no
hatred or fear anymore. She only wanted to be there for Yuri. She was a sister to
her, maybe more, but right now she was alive and a new mother. Robert walked
back in with some drinks to find the two still holding each other. It had been a
half hour at least. He was hiding his jealousy uneasily.
He wanted them to stop sometime, but that would be wrong. He sighed and sat
down on a chair nearby. Phil walked in and sat across from him. He figured
talking would do him some good.
"You alright, Robert?" he asked.
"Yeah, just kind of lost in all this, say who are you to Kei?"
"Kei? Heh, just a friend, all I could ever need really. Yuri doing alright?"
"Yes, she's much better now. She was in pain for a whole week, we were going
to wait another day then this all happened. At any rate it worked out fine, say
you want a coffee? I brought these for the girls, but they seem to be eh, busy."
"Heh, sure," he took a mug from him and sipped it.
"So, Phil is it? What was wrong with Kei?"
"Not sure, I came in as fast as I could since you called. I found her just as you
described it, frozen a few feet from the door. I shook her and talked to her.
Couldn't get myself to slap her. She couldn't respond."
"So you made out with her for 10 minutes."
"Eh wasn't quite that long. I saw it on some old cartoon, heh. It didn't work right,
but I'm glad it did eventually."
"She hit you?"
"No actually, I would have taken the hit if she felt it right, guess she was worn
out," he sipped his drink more.
"Worn out? From what, you or the dream state?"
Phil shrugged and drank some more of the coffee.
--
In the waiting room down the hall a couple guys sat at a table and went over
papers and photos. "Hey Daley, what do you make of that demon?"
"I don't know, he seems bent on killing and destroying everything yet he acts as
if he has a purpose. Taking into account all we've heard from everyone save for
Kei and Yuri, the demon wishes the end of the Lovely Angel's legacy, or was it
Dirty Pair?"
"The code name is Lovely Angel."
"To him it's Dirty Pair," Daley shrugged and flipped through photos again,
"Whatever the matter is, this demon possess a technology beyond any I've seen
before. Morphing limbs into bladed and projectile weaponry, defense capable of
taking any chemical, energy or solid weapon and absorb it or block it with the
greatest efficiency, nothing we threw at it mattered," Daley explained.
"Tell me something I don't know."
"It vanished."
The news was turned up once the commercials ended, "New information
pertaining to the attacks on our city, the southern and northern sectors are being
salvaged and plans are already in place for rebuilding those areas. Loss of life
has been increased to 132 casualties and 200 injuries. Medical facilities are on
full alert with every available personnel on duty and working, more on this in an
hour," a cartoon popped on just in time to show some more explosions. Giant
mechs flew over the area soon after.
"Heh I used to watch that show as a kid," Seigal commented.
"Really? That show never really did anything for me."
"What did you watch?"
"Uh, Gravitation."
"Ah heh, eh," Seigal thought a bit.
--
"Excuse us, I'm Rachael, this is my partner Volandia, we're the current Lovely
Angels. May we come in?" Rachael asked. She never met the legendary angels
and was sounding quite meek.
"Sure, but the girls are a bit busy, heh," Robert tried not to sound embarrassed
as he rubbed his head with a spare hand.
"I'll take that," Rachael grabbed the mug from him and soon grabbed a chair. He
just stared blankly at them. Volandia rolled her wheel chair in next to her partner
in front of the bed. Rachael's arm and Volandia's leg were in a cast.
"So, you take that demon out?" Phil asked.
"No, word is he fled the planet," Volandia answered.
"Hey you two, cut it out!" Rachael shouted. Robert nearly fell over backwards in
his chair. Volandia sweat dropped and shook her head. Phil just sipped his coffee.
"What? Oh hey, you must be the new angels," Kei smiled and let go of Yuri, she
sat there on the bed still holding her hand.
"Yeah, I'm Rachael, that's Volandia, she's the ditz."
"Excuse me," Volandia muttered.
"I'm glad you two are ok," Yuri said.
"I'm just happy you two are ok, we did all we could to keep that demon away,"
Rachael just drank some of the coffee and sat it back down on her lap. It wasn't
all that hot by now.
"Well, thank you," Kei continued to smile.
"Hey, Kei, you seem rather up beat about all this, something happen?" Rachael
asked.
"That demon as you call him is named Rapture. He entered my mind and gave
me a horrid nightmare," Kei remembered that he said that he'd be back in a
couple weeks.
"Oh, sorry, um. You don't bothered by it," Volandia pointed out.
"I've nothing to fear anymore. This whole time he's been forcing me to fight
myself. It won't happen again," Kei squeezed Yuri's hand back as if to answer a
question.
"You sure?" Yuri asked aloud. Kei nodded.
"Wait, you are going to fight him?" Robert asked.
"I don't have a choice."
"You know how to beat it?" Phil asked.
"Yes, and I have you to thank." Kei looked right at him.
"Huh?"
"Ah enough of this, let's go see the baby!" Volandia sounded excited, it was the
whole reason she came here. Yuri and Kei just laughed. Robert got up and gave
Yuri a hug. He's been meaning to this for some time now for whatever reason,
didn't matter. He then led the way to the Maternity Ward.
"Kawaaiii, eh which one is it?" Volandia laughed.
"Number 3 there," Robert pointed.
"Ooooh, kawaiii!"
"Shudap already," Rachael muttered and got elbowed by Kei.
"Yes, a beautiful little girl," Kei said.
"You have a name yet?" Volandia turned her wheel chair a bit and looked up at
him.
"No, not yet, we didn't even bother to see if it was a boy or girl until today,"
Robert smiled.
"Ha, spoilers no good by you eh? Waiting for the big show?" Rachael laughed
and got elbowed again. "Hey, cut it out,"
"Nah," Kei laughed.
"Sup with the uber happy face, Kei?" Rachael asked.
"You're just being a little too cute for my tastes," Kei roughed up her hair and
gave her a gentle shove.
"Hey!" Rachael ran her spare hand through her hair to fix it.
"Look, Angels," Kei turned to the two of them. Robert and Phil continued to
watch the baby sleep. "I understand the media has been calling you pigeons, it
must have been because you were too afraid of causing damage or deaths in
your missions. You didn't want the reputation I have had or Riza has had."
Rachael and Volandia looked on now understanding things a bit better. "So what
do we do?" Rachael asked. She adjusted her arm sling a bit.
"Don't be afraid, do whatever it takes to complete a mission, one crazed maniac
thwarted leaves far more alive than dead by your actions or lack of action. You
are not perfect and you cannot become so. There is one more thing which is a
bit more important."
"What's that?" Volandia asked.
"You may have our memory and Riza's and Jade's memory before you, but
create your own memory, be your own force. Be it greater than ours or theirs
matters not, make it your own. We never had anyone to compete against so you
shouldn't either."
"Thanks, Kei, say you going to go kick that demon's butt?" Rachael smirked.
"Or die trying," Kei shrugged.
"Want us to come with?" Volandia asked.
"No, for the moment you are still pigeons," Kei laughed and walked over to Phil.
She whispered something into his ear and walked off. He soon followed behind
her.
Later that day Kei was cleaning glasses from within her bar. Phil stopped by
along with a few others who worked part time. They cleaned tables and set up
chairs expecting some customers to come by within the hour.
"Say, Miss Misaki?" a young woman asked from across the room, she had a
towel in her hands.
"Kei is fine, Natsumi,"
"Oh, heh, Kei then, you will be leaving soon?"
"Yeah, I've a week or so to prepare." Kei set a glass aside and looked the room
over.
"Who's going to run the bar?" Natsumi asked. She walked a bit closer and set the
towel on the bar counter.
"Good question, I was thinking you could handle it. Past few months you've been
requesting overtime, think you can do more?"
"Yeah, that'd be great! I mean, thank you."
"Heh, well you take over the current shift then, have Akira and Tomas serve the
drinks and clean, I'm sure they won't mind," she gave them an eye.
"Yes, Ma'am!" they turned and responded quickly.
"Good, now, Phil," Kei walked over and passed him.
"Yes?"
"Come with me,"
"Uh, ok," he followed her into the back room of the bar. The door was closed
behind them.
"I may not ever come back you know," Kei sighed.
"I thought as much, what about Yuri?"
"She'll be ok, might be for the better anyways,"
"Whatever you want, Angel,"
"Heh, I may be an Angel yet, now, I want you to show me what you did back
there in the hospital," she stepped closer.
"How could I say no to a smile like that?" Phil laughed.
--
Rachael and Volandia had made their way to the waiting area. Daley and Seigal
would give them a ride home. "Hey, Vo," Rachael walked a bit closer and peered
down over her shoulder.
Volandia looked up at her partner, "Yes?"
"We going to back Kei up?" she asked.
"We really shouldn't,"
"I just can't stand martyrs," Rachael sighed.
"Me either," Volandia added. She rolled forward and parked by the table.
"Ready for the trip home?" Daley asked with a smile.
"Great I have to carry that gimp again?"
"Ah shudap, gay boys," Rachael mused.
"We are not gay!" Seigal fumed. Daley just laughed to himself.
"Oh so you two are the perfect match for each other meaning what?" Rachael
laughed.
"Hey we are like brothers, right?" Seigal thwapped Daley's shoulder.
"Heheh, whatever you say, Seigal," Daley laughed.
"Hey wait a minute, what genre was Gravitation again?" Seigal asked.
"Not saying," Daley laughed. The two girls caught on quicker and laughed along
with him.
"Hey, don't do that! I hate when people do that to me!"
"Ah, relax, Seagull," Rachael laughed.
"Seagull eh?" he stood up from his table and left the room trying not to let his
anger get the best of him.
